Northwestern SWE Summer Technology and Engineering Program (STEP)

June 16-18, 2008

 

This June, Northwestern SWE will be hosting a multi-day outreach event, entitled the Summer Technology and Engineering Program (STEP), encouraging middle school girls to explore careers in the field of engineering.

The program hours are as follows:

Monday, 6/16 Drop off: 8:30 - 9:00 am Pick up: 5:00 - 5:30 pm
Tuesday, 6/17 Drop off: 8:30 - 9:00 am Pick up: 5:00 - 5:30 pm
Wednesday 6/18 Drop off: 8:30 - 9:00 am Closing dinner 5:00 - 8:00 pm (parents invited)


This year's program is themed "STEP Up! Design Your Future". Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Work in teams to build and present a Rube Goldberg machine
  • Learn about the different engineering disciplines through hands-on activities and understand career opportunities within each
  • Work in small groups with Northwestern undergraduate engineering students
  • Explore laboratories at Northwestern's Technological Institute
  • Speak with professional female engineers
  • Visit a local engineering company
  • Meet other girls who are also excited about engineering!
